On August 28, 2007 EarthLink informed the city of St. Petersburg that they are no longer pursuing contractual negotiations to provide a citywide broadband wireless network in the city of St. Petersburg, and many other cities across they country.  EarthLink is undergoing a massive corporate restructuring including laying off 900 employees encompassing half of its workforce, closing several offices, and have reexamined the municipal wireless business model.
